2015 PIPA Connections Conference steeped in history |
Minister Deron Bilous sends 2015 PIPA Connections Conference participants best wishes! |
Originally conceived of and hosted by former Alberta and British Columbia Information and Privacy Commissioners Frank Work QC, and David Loukidelis, this conference is born out of a set of ideals originally established by its predecessor the PIPA Conference, which ran annually from 2005 - 2012. The ideals of community, value, and quality professional development opportunities helped to establish it as one of the best conferences in North America dedicated to privacy and associated issues. In 2014 we saw a return to those values with renewed vigor and a greater understanding of the world we live in. Hence, Verney Conference Management and the Advisory Committee decided it would make most sense to re-title the conference and give it a new "brand" as the 2014 PIPA Connections Conference - Privacy, Security, & Records Management. Here is what some people had to say:
New technologies, social media, smart phones, biotech, BIG DATA etc. have all contributed to a grossly different landscape when it comes to the commercial interactions between organizations and individuals. We are realizing more everyday the importance protection of personal information, information security, and records management have in a world evolving at exponential rates...but more importantly the connections between them. 2015 will see a reduction in registration fees, and more sectoral categories to choose from when registering. Newly appointed Minister of Service Alberta, Deron Bilous, also responsible for spearheading a comprehensive review of the province's PIPA legislation, encourages businesses and non-profits across the province to "stay-tuned" for PIPA amendments...but also "stay-the-course". Regardless of legislation, we live in a society where we value the protection of our personal information by those who collect it. It is a question of trust, effective privacy practices, ensures that trust...therefore good privacy, is good business. Click here for the letter.
